A series of floods beginning in December 2010, reached the City of Brisbane in Queensland resulting in the Brisbane River breaking its banks on January 11th, 2011.
Many homes and businesses were evacuated as the river continued to rise. There are many human interest stories, of the events that surrounded those days, some devastating, and some amazing stories of courage. This descriptive story about a little tug boat called ‘Mavis’ is for young children to picture the happenings on the River on January 13th and perhaps imprint in their minds the tragic happenings of the Queensland Floods and what a true Australian hero she was and still is today.
Children should be encouraged to look for the date of the Brisbane River Flood (January 13th) which is in some of the illustrations within the book.
There will be a $5.00 donation for each book sold to help the ‘Premiers Flood Disaster Relief fund’.
Please enjoy Mavis and we hope she touches your heart as she has ours.
